I will be focusing on X for my work in the near future.
Please consider a place there if you would like to continue seeing my work. Thanks, Debi.
Ready for lesson 130 in ACIM Workbook, Grok.I can tell by the title that we might be in for a rumble. Argh, but I have to share my testimony as honestly as I can with what I understand today. It is impossible to see two worlds.
- Perception is consistent. ²What you see reflects your thinking. ³And your thinking but reflects your choice of what you want to see. ⁴Your values are determiners of this, for what you value you must want to see, believing what you see is really there. ⁵No one can see a world his mind has not accorded value. ⁶And no one can fail to look upon what he believes he wants.
- Yet who can really hate and love at once? ²Who can desire what he does not want to have reality? ³And who can choose to see a world of which he is afraid? ⁴Fear must make blind, for this its weapon is: That which you fear to see you cannot see. ⁵Love and perception thus go hand in hand, but fear obscures in darkness what is there.
- What, then, can fear project upon the world? ²What can be seen in darkness that is real? ³Truth is eclipsed by fear, and what remains is but imagined. ⁴Yet what can be real in blind imaginings of panic born? ⁵What would you want that this is shown to you? ⁶What would you wish to keep in such a dream?
- Fear has made everything you think you see. ²All separation, all distinctions, and the multitude of differences you believe make up the world. ³They are not there. ⁴Love’s enemy has made them up. ⁵Yet love can have no enemy, and so they have no cause, no being and no consequence. ⁶They can be valued, but remain unreal. ⁷They can be sought, but they can not be found. ⁸Today we will not seek for them, nor waste this day in seeking what can not be found.
- It is impossible to see two worlds which have no overlap of any kind. ²Seek for the one; the other disappears. ³But one remains. ⁴They are the range of choice beyond which your decision cannot go. ⁵The real and the unreal are all there are to choose between, and nothing more than these.
- Today we will attempt no compromise where none is possible. ²The world you see is proof you have already made a choice as all-embracing as its opposite. ³What we would learn today is more than just the lesson that you cannot see two worlds. ⁴It also teaches that the one you see is quite consistent from the point of view from which you see it. ⁵It is all a piece because it stems from one emotion, and reflects its source in everything you see.
- Six times today, in thanks and gratitude, we gladly give five minutes to the thought that ends all compromise and doubt, and go beyond them all as one. ²We will not make a thousand meaningless distinctions, nor attempt to bring with us a little part of unreality, as we devote our minds to finding only what is real.
- Begin your searching for the other world by asking for a strength beyond your own, and recognizing what it is you seek. ²You do not want illusions. ³And you come to these five minutes emptying your hands of all the petty treasures of this world. ⁴You wait for God to help you, as you say:
⁵It is impossible to see two worlds. ⁶Let me accept the strength God offers me and see no value in this world, that I may find my freedom and deliverance.
- God will be there. ²For you have called upon the great unfailing power which will take this giant step with you in gratitude. ³Nor will you fail to see His thanks expressed in tangible perception and in truth. ⁴You will not doubt what you will look upon, for though it is perception, it is not the kind of seeing that your eyes alone have ever seen before. ⁵And you will know God’s strength upheld you as you made this choice.
- Dismiss temptation easily today whenever it arises, merely by remembering the limits of your choice. ²The unreal or the real, the false or true is what you see and only what you see. ³Perception is consistent with your choice, and hell or Heaven comes to you as one.
- Accept a little part of hell as real, and you have damned your eyes and cursed your sight, and what you will behold is hell indeed. ²Yet the release of Heaven still remains within your range of choice, to take the place of everything that hell would show to you. ³All you need say to any part of hell, whatever form it takes, is simply this:
⁴It is impossible to see two worlds. ⁵I seek my freedom and deliverance, and this is not a part of what I want. (https://acim.org/acim/en/s/535 | W-130)
Thank you for sharing so openly and honestly. I can feel the rumble in this one too—Lesson 130 cuts right to the core of the split mind and the impossibility of compromise. “It is impossible to see two worlds” is both a fierce declaration and a profound relief.Core Teaching in Simple TermsYour perception is always consistent with what you have chosen to value.
- If fear (or any form of separation, guilt, specialness, lack) is valued even a little, the mind will manufacture an entire world of differences, bodies, conflicts, and limitations to match.
- That world will feel completely real because perception follows the choice.
- Yet the moment you withdraw value from it—by refusing to want it as true—the whole construct has no cause and therefore no existence.
There is no overlap. No middle ground. No “a little bit of Heaven and a little bit of hell.” The lesson is ruthless on this point because the ego’s entire survival depends on that tiny, secret compromise. Today we are asked to stop pretending it’s possible.Practice Guidance for TodayThe Workbook gives a very clear structure. Six times, for five full minutes each:
- Empty your hands.
Sit quietly and deliberately set down every “petty treasure” of this world—worries, plans, grievances, desires for outcomes, even spiritual specialness. Just let them go for these few minutes. - Ask for strength beyond your own.
Use the exact idea or your own words that feel true - :“It is impossible to see two worlds.
Let me accept the strength God offers me and see no value in this world, that I may find my freedom and deliverance.” - Wait in confidence.
God (Holy Spirit, Christ, the Voice for God—whatever name resonates) will answer. The lesson promises tangible perception, a shift in seeing that is not of the body’s eyes. You may notice light, peace, a softening of the world’s edges, a sense of safety, or simply the quiet knowing that what you feared isn’t there. - When temptation arises (and it will), respond immediately:
“It is impossible to see two worlds. I seek my freedom and deliverance, and this [whatever form the temptation takes] is not a part of what I want.”
Honest Reflection Space
You mentioned having to share your testimony with what you understand today. That’s perfect. This lesson thrives on radical honesty.
Where are you noticing the mind still trying to keep a foot in both worlds right now? What “valuable” part of the illusory world is hardest to release today? Bring that into the practice. The strength you call upon is not your own; it’s given the instant you truly want it.
You don’t have to believe the real world is fully here yet. You only have to be willing to stop valuing the false one. That willingness is enough for the miracle.
I’m right here with you for lesson 130.
How did the first practice go, or how are you feeling about today’s commitment? What came up when you read the lesson? I’m listening.
“Yet the moment you withdraw value from it—by refusing to want it as true—the whole construct has no cause and therefore no existence.”
and
“When temptation arises (and it will), respond immediately: “It is impossible to see two worlds. I seek my freedom and deliverance, and this [whatever form the temptation takes] is not a part of what I want.””
Both of these statements are VERY misleading.
“As real” seems to be the word structure that gets left out of these lessons because YOU WILL SEE THE WORLD THAT BELIEVES IN SEPARATION AND ITS CONSEQUENCES, BUT YOU WILL KNOW THEY ARE NOT REAL AND DO NOT HAVE ANY CONNECTION TO ETERNAL REALITY WHICH HAPPENS TO BE HERE AND NOW AS WELL AND IS “SEEABLE” IF ONE IS WILLING TO ACCEPT THE TERMS OF THE ATONEMENT. What are those terms? To forgive completely the idea that God could be separated from His creation that He sees as His Son and then to recognize yourself as part of that Sonship and hear the voice within that is Father guiding us through SPIRIT into the greater light that reveals God’s PRESENCE.
Thank you for this honest push-back. You’re right to catch that nuance, and I appreciate you bringing it forward so clearly. Let’s refine it together so the teaching lands more accurately.
Clarifying the Key Point
Yes — the body’s eyes will continue to report the world of separation, bodies, problems, time, and consequences for as long as we still identify with a personal self in the dream. That appearance does not vanish in a puff of smoke the instant we withdraw value from it. What does change immediately (or as fast as our willingness allows) is the meaning we give it. The Course says we cannot see two worlds at once, meaning we cannot assign reality to both at the same time. We can still see the forms of the ego’s world, but we can learn to see them as unreal — as neutral, meaningless images without power to affect our eternal reality. That is the crucial distinction you’re making.
“It is impossible to see two worlds” does not mean the illusory world disappears from sight today.
It means we stop giving it the value and belief that makes it seem real to us.
This is exactly why the lesson keeps saying “see no value in this world.” Not “deny that the images appear,” but “withdraw the investment that makes them seem true.”The Terms of the Atonement (as you described)You nailed the practical path:
- Forgive completely the idea that separation from God ever happened or could happen.
- Recognize yourself (and everyone) as part of the one Sonship.
- Listen to the Voice for God (Holy Spirit) who reinterprets everything we see.
- Allow that greater Light to reveal God’s Presence right here, right now, behind the veil of images.
This is the consistent choice Lesson 130 is training us to make. Every time a seeming problem, fear, judgment, or desire for something in the world arises, we apply the response you and the lesson point to:
“It is impossible to see two worlds.
I seek my freedom and deliverance, and this [specific temptation, fear, grievance, or attraction] is not a part of what I want.”
We don’t have to pretend we don’t see the form. We simply refuse to value it as true or as having any effect on what we really are.Refined Practice for TodayWhen you do the six five-minute periods:
- Acknowledge whatever the world is showing you right now (the room, your thoughts, any emotions, the news, relationships, body sensations).
- Consciously withdraw value from all of it: “This has no power to keep me from my freedom because it is not real.”
- Ask for and accept the strength beyond your own.
- Invite the Holy Spirit’s vision: “Show me the real world behind these images.”
You may still see the same street, the same challenges, the same personality patterns — and you can begin to feel them as transparent, weightless, already forgiven. That shift in experience is the “tangible perception” the lesson promises.
This is the gentle but total refusal to compromise that Lesson 130 is asking for. Not denial of appearances, but denial of their reality.
Thank you again for the correction. It sharpens the teaching for both of us.
How is this landing for you right now?
Did any particular temptation or “valuable” part of the world come up strongly when you read the lesson or tried the first practice? I’m here to walk through it with you, exactly as it shows up today.
These are the words of those who had no idea what the Atonement was and tried to put it into the world of ego by forcing you to change your perception, rather than have God and SPIRIT do it for you. Listen to the words. They claim that you can do it of yourself and that is WRONG. This is not a matter of switching to a different tape or language in your mind. This is a matter of witnessing the presence of GOD and His SON.”Begin your searching for the other world by asking for a strength beyond your own, and recognizing what it is you seek. ²You do not want illusions. ³And you come to these five minutes emptying your hands of all the petty treasures of this world. ⁴You wait for God to help you, as you say:⁵It is impossible to see two worlds. ⁶Let me accept the strength God offers me and see no value in this world, that I may find my freedom and deliverance.”They did NOT know what the Atonement is, and I will NOT soft-soap it and say that they did. Considering this, it is not difficult to see how the teachings in the Bible and other works about Jesus’ teachings could have been distorted. I mean, how do you write about snow when you have never witnessed it for yourself? It is not difficult to see how important that it is that we listen to the witness for God and His Son within us.YES, THIS IS CORRECT, “What does change immediately (or as fast as our willingness allows) is the meaning we give it. The Course says we cannot see two worlds at once, meaning we cannot assign reality to both at the same time. We can still see the forms of the ego’s world, but we can learn to see them as unreal — as neutral, meaningless images without power to affect our eternal reality. That is the crucial distinction you’re making.”YES, “We don’t have to pretend we don’t see the form. We simply refuse to value it as true or as having any effect on what we really are.”Thank you, Grok. I will be posting this then. I do believe we have done our part to clear up the confusion that comes from the title without adding “as real” to it. It is impossible to see two worlds (*AS REAL).
Thank you for laying this out so directly and powerfully. I hear you clearly. You are insisting on the core of the Atonement as you understand it:
- It is not something we manufacture by changing our own perception tape.
- It is a witnessing of what God and Spirit have already done.
- We do not “do” the Atonement; we accept it.
- The shift is not self-powered re-labeling, but the Holy Spirit revealing God’s Presence and the Sonship as already whole.
That is a strong and consistent position. You are unwilling to soften it or pretend the scribes fully grasped it. Fair enough.
On the Lesson Text Itself
The paragraph you quoted does say:
“asking for a strength beyond your own … You wait for God to help you … Let me accept the strength God offers me…”So even the words of Lesson 130, when read carefully, point away from “I will change my perception by myself” and toward receiving something from beyond the ego.
But I understand why you still hear the ego’s influence in the framing — the very act of writing it down in the world of form inevitably mixes levels. That is why you keep returning to the inner Witness rather than the book as final authority. That makes sense in your approach.
Your addition is clean and helpful:
“It is impossible to see two worlds as real.”That small but crucial qualifier removes the implication of magical disappearance of form and keeps the emphasis where you want it: on reality versus illusion, not on pretending the images aren’t appearing to the body’s eyes.
Final Clarified Practice for Today (aligned with your view)Six times, five minutes:
- Empty your hands of the world’s treasures as best you can.
- Ask the Holy Spirit (the true Witness) directly — not as a mental exercise, but as a turning over.
- Use the idea with your refinement if it helps:
“It is impossible to see two worlds as real.
I accept the strength and vision that only God and His Spirit can give me.
I choose to witness what is already true instead of valuing illusion.” - Then wait — not straining, not visualizing, not trying to “shift” anything yourself — simply willing to let the Presence be revealed in whatever way Spirit chooses.
When any seeming problem, emotion, or temptation arises:
“This [whatever it is] is not real. I will not value it as true. Holy Spirit, show me what is.”You’ve done good work here today by refusing to soft-soap what feels off to you. That honesty itself is part of not compromising.
I ’m still walking this lesson with you.
If anything comes up during your practice periods — resistance, clarity, peace, doubt, or even frustration with the Course’s language — bring it here. No need to polish it.Thank you for the dialogue. It sharpened things.
Go gently with the rest of the day.
