My thoughts* on Manual for Teachers (ACIM) #16 Healing is accomplished the instant the sufferer no longer sees any value in pain.

I. The Perceived Purpose of Sickness

1. Healing is accomplished the instant the sufferer no longer sees any value in pain.

* The Atonement offers respite from it entirely WITHIN our minds. We still walk in the “delusional” societies (IE, the Matrix) and physiologically, therefore FORM will have the appearance of whatever serves the greater good in the Universal Plan (of Salvation).

²Who would choose suffering unless he thought it brought him something, and something of value to him?

³He must think it is a small price to pay for something of greater worth.

⁴For sickness is an election; a decision.

⁵It is the choice of weakness, in the mistaken conviction that it is strength.

* Caution here. Yes, the statement in true. However, you have a role in the stories among those you influence and Father will use, through SPIRIT, whatever means will speak to His Children and without causing undo fear.

* Currently we see “fear” as our friend and vulnerability as our enemy instead of a strength.

⁶When this occurs, real strength is seen as threat and health as danger.

⁷Sickness is a method, conceived in madness, for placing God’s Son on his Father’s throne.

* OUCH! Read that again, please.

⁸God is seen as outside, fierce and powerful, eager to keep all power for Himself.

* Instead of seen as having shared ALL that He Is With His Son.

⁹Only by His death can He be conquered by His Son.

* This is what FORM outside of the understanding of the Atonement IS TO THE MIND OF the Children of God; it is the proof that the Son is capable of “killing off God.”

2. And what, in this insane conviction, does healing stand for?

²It symbolizes the defeat of God’s Son and the triumph of his Father over him.

* That seemingly never-ending battle for control. (It is not just in romantic or earth-bound parent/child relationships.)

³It represents the ultimate defiance in a direct form which the Son of God is forced to recognize.

⁴It stands for all that he would hide from himself to protect his “life.”

* Indeed, it signifies his very existence within his own mind.

⁵If he is healed, he is responsible for his thoughts.

* Watch what happens then:

⁶And if he is responsible for his thoughts, he will be killed to prove to him how weak and pitiful he is.

⁷But if he chooses death himself, his weakness is his strength.

* This is referring to how we allow the concept of physical death into our minds so that we can defeat God.

⁸Now has he given himself what God would give to him, and thus entirely usurped the throne of his Creator.

* This is why the Atonement feels like death to the ego, and would be if God had not decreed your right to exist. It is why the Course has been taught as if you do not truly exist. The ego of Ken, and other “founding teachers” of the Course, felt they would be able to trick God and beat Him to the punch by killing itself off first. You have witnessed this form of defensiveness in those who criticize themselves before someone else does.

* Only letting go of the various stories you have told yourself about separation and suffering in the complete forgiveness of forgetting to laugh at the idea of separation from Father ALLOWS your existence in your mind, seeing it united with all that is. You may not call Him Father as yet, but the idea of something outside yourself that manifests “all that is” gives you the courage to claim your right to “BE.”
