My thoughts* on Manual for Teachers (ACIM), Introduction. We Each Have This Potential and Will Accept it In This Lifetime or Another

Reviewed on 3 January 2025

1. The role of teaching and learning is actually reversed in the thinking of the world.

* Are you listening? Are you willing to hear what YOUR POTENTIAL IS?

²The reversal is characteristic.

* Characteristic of the relationship between Father’s View and that of the Image that Christ made up in his dream of separation and shame.

³It seems as if the teacher and the learner are separated, the teacher giving something to the learner rather than to himself.

* Oh wow, how true! The teacher gives, but doesn’t get, in the world. I love the life of a teacher because of the learning that I receive. Truly, what you get is secondary to that. Sorry. 😉 😊

⁴Further, the act of teaching is regarded as a special activity, in which one engages only a relatively small proportion of one’s time.

* To think of the stability that lack of “knowing” gives and how much more delight there is in being a constant learner/teacher.

⁵The course, on the other hand, emphasizes that to teach is to learn, so that teacher and learner are the same.

* Hallelujah! I am VERY GRATEFUL for this truth! I suppose that it is not an “eternal truth” because learning will not always be required but for now it is delightful!

⁶It also emphasizes that teaching is a constant process; it goes on every moment of the day, and continues into sleeping thoughts as well.

* Even without you consciously recognizing it the dreams you have assist you in life. I know that they have in mine. Some suggest that there are ways to gain more conscious awareness of these things but I have not done much with those abilities.

2. To teach is to demonstrate.

* Years before I found the Course I chose to Home School my children and that practice became a 24/7 kind of thing, and I found that as I taught or spoke, I felt impressed to live by that. This may be part of why I was so determined to turn from what I was not able to uphold over my lifetime. I also found that in church as I bore my testimony (which is a form of teaching and what I do today, everyday) I would be challenged on the things I testified of and was thereby strengthened in them myself as I walked with faith in what I had taught. (I no longer consider myself a Christian and have no religious affiliation.)

* One of my daughters has been upset with the fact that I have changed in what I professed was truth in her younger years and continue to change which shows how confusing I have been in my children’s lives because of the very thing spoken of by Jesus here.

²There are only two thought systems, and you demonstrate that you believe one or the other is true all the time.

* Folks, this is whether you decide to be a teacher or not. It is a fact that we ARE simply by living.

³From your demonstration others learn, and so do you.

⁴The question is not whether you will teach, for in that there is no choice.

⁵The purpose of the course might be said to provide you with a means of choosing what you want to teach on the basis of what you want to learn.

* YOU choose what you are. And in that you decide what you will teach.

⁶You cannot give to someone else, but only to yourself, and this you learn through teaching.

⁷Teaching is but a call to witnesses to attest to what you believe.

* To “attest” is to affirm to be correct true or genuine. This would explain why it often felt like I would be “tested” on my “testimony” in church because I was having the proof of it shown to me in my environment and yet I knew through those years that it was an act of FAITH on my part that confirmed the witness of what I had said before others. (I was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and there were monthly testimony meetings that I often bore a short testimony in. I will never forget the man who thought that the same people should not do that monthly because it took away from others. I would suggest instead that they count on meetings being as long as the number of people attending so that each could speak for a half a minute or so of what they understand to be truth. This was a TREMENDOUS learning tool for me and still is even though I no longer consider myself a member of that church and have not been there for nine years.)

⁸It is a method of conversion.

* The “conversion” is for YOURS, not other’s though it does influence them.

⁹This is not done by words alone.

¹⁰Any situation must be to you a chance to teach others what you are, and what they are to you.

* “Any situation,” this is why we are ALL movers and shakers and why only ONE IDIVIDUAL can change the world or clear out the confusion in the United Consciousness. Whoa! That is the Power of God coming through us, either in truth or to put up smoke and mirrors.

* This is why it is important to consider the company we keep and the media we expose ourselves to.

* Being MINDFUL IN the Atonement we are able to keep our influence and how we are influenced focused on Father through SPIRIT’s Guidance. This can take time but our confidence does grow in it.

¹¹No more than that, but also never less.

3. The curriculum you set up is therefore determined exclusively by what you think you are, and what you believe the relationship of others is to you.

²In the formal teaching situation, these questions may be totally unrelated to what you think you are teaching.

* Consider that.

³Yet it is impossible not to use the content of any situation on behalf of what you really teach, and therefore really learn.

⁴To this the verbal content of your teaching is quite irrelevant.

* Basically, you teach what you believe you ARE.

* This aligns with what I am learning about “DOING” being to give ourselves confidence in our personal value and that of others. It is ALWAYS for the self-first, even if it seems as if it is for others.

⁵It may coincide with it, or it may not.

⁶It is the teaching underlying what you say that teaches you.

* COOL!

⁷Teaching but reinforces what you believe about yourself.

⁸Its fundamental purpose is to diminish self-doubt.

* When I hear someone complain about others regularly, I can tell how they FEEL about THEMSELVES. That has been a huge issue with me not being able to have a real companion in this lifetime.

* When you do not have your sights locked on Father through the Atonement it can be easy to point out there and find fault.

* Funny. That sounds exactly like what I am doing when I choose not to mingle, and it is the way it is taken by others but what is not seen is the “perfect rest,” that I have about all things. This is that peace that passes understanding, and it comes from knowing all could only be as Father created it, regardless of what it appears like.  (I do not know how to rectify this situation. I listen to SPIRIT’s promptings to show me. Currently, I hear Him saying that I do not want those who insist on being without God in my presence anyway. I know that sounds “snooty.” Just trying to “keep it real” about how I feel and it’s NOT that I HATE others, rather I have great compassion and affection for them. I just want THEM to know who they are as a part of Christ and in the Mind and Will of Father and I do not want to take on the HATE I feel they are teaching me by drawing me into their stories.)

⁹This does not mean that the self you are trying to protect is real.

¹⁰But it does mean that the self you think is real is what you teach.

* NOTE the distinction there.

4. This is inevitable.

²There is no escape from it.

³How could it be otherwise?

⁴Everyone who follows the world’s curriculum, and everyone here does follow it until he changes his mind, teaches solely to convince himself that he is what he is not.

* Yep, and that is what is very difficult for me to be around.

⁵Herein is the purpose of the world.

* “The world” here refers to the one that denies God, not the one that the Son and Father created together for them BOTH to enjoy. We called that one something like Heaven, Paradise, Nirvana, Shangri-La.

⁶What else, then, would its curriculum be?

⁷Into this hopeless and closed learning situation, which teaches nothing but despair and death, God sends His teachers.

⁸And as they teach His lessons of joy and hope, their learning finally becomes complete.

* … Bringing Heaven TO Earth.

5. Except for God’s teachers there would be little hope of salvation, for the world of sin would seem forever real.

* Please do not think that these are anybody “special” like we have been taught in our youth. They are simply those who desire to KNOW and REMEMBER that GOD IS.

²The self-deceiving must deceive, for they must teach deception.

* And the FIRST they deceive is THEMSELVES.

³And what else is hell?

⁴This is a manual for the teachers of God.

⁵They are not perfect, or they would not be here.

* HEAR THAT PLEASE.

⁶Yet it is their mission to become perfect here, and so they teach perfection over and over, in many, many ways, until they have learned it.

 * I remember an ethics professor who said that their sibling would ask them how they could teach something when they had not perfected it yet and the above statement by Jesus tells us how.

⁷And then they are seen no more, although their thoughts remain a source of strength and truth forever.

* Good grief!

* Is this scribal error or intentionally placed here to confuse us?

* Those whose minds this Manual came through did not understand the principles that were being taught. It is understandable that they may have thrown in a “caveat;” a warning or caution, a qualifier or explanation to how “perfect” could be here among the imperfect. But this is because THEY TRULY THOUGHT THEMSELVES IMPERFECT.

* This IS truly funny! In a SAD WAY.

⁸Who are they?

⁹How are they chosen?

¹⁰What do they do?

¹¹How can they work out their own salvation and the salvation of the world?

* I do not plan on disappearing; and YES, I will hold my claim to PERFECTION, AS WELL AS YOURS, WITHIN ME.

* To accept the Biblical accounts of the perfected “disappearing” is to buy the propaganda put there throughout the ages to maintain a psyche that was willing to be RULED OVER because of their “imperfections” and unwillingness to LISTEN to the Voice of God that Tells them who they truly ARE.

* This is also an example of how the ancient records were altered in their understanding.

* One could also look at the phrase as simply stating that one no longer has any desire to engage in the false stories that has been applied to existence and seen as reality once one understands their place in the Body of Christ Consciousness. Hmm.

¹²This manual attempts to answer these questions.
